Developed by IICA and Vogue in commemoration of the International Day of Rural Women, this initiative seeks to pay tribute to these women.
To meet this objective, Vogue traveled to four countries in the Americas –Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala and Jamaica– to tell the stories of women who live off the land. The result is 28 images that depict the powerful life stories of women for whom food is synonymous with affection and survival, and whose colorful, handcrafted garments have great significance.
IICA is committed to giving visibility to the role of women and accelerating the development of sound public policies for the benefit of women who live in the countryside. To this end, the Institute has included the topic of rural women as a cross-cutting issue in its 2018-2022 Medium-term Plan.

A professional photographer from Brazil, Duarte frequently collaborates with Vogue and Elle. Through her lens, she portrays the stories of these women.
A specialized journalist and Vogue contributor, Abreu traveled with IICA to meet rural women, collect their stories and reflect their daily lives. She is the curator of the exhibition.
